Big Pharma has many ways of keeping drug prices high, and they are very good at it. Tarbell dives into the use of op-eds by “experts” funded by Big Pharma intended to influence public perception of high drug prices.
Importation is one solution for lowering drug prices that has been a target. Their propaganda attempts to convince people that it would lead to proliferation of counterfeit medications in the U.S. and worsen the opioid crisis.
These op-eds play on fears of unsafe medications, but couldn’t be further from the truth. Think about it… how could greater oversight of importation lead to more unsafe medications coming into the country? Don’t they argue that lack of oversight by the FDA is one of their main reasons for claiming that importation is dangerous? It’s confusing because it’s a red herring argument intended to mislead the public.
Big Pharma has gone to extensive and exhaustive lengths to pull the wool over the eyes of the public but Americans have become wise because they have gone too far.
